As a community committed to upholding the dignity of every human being, St. Paul’s is on a mission to end the stigma around period poverty in Charles County.
DID YOU KNOW?
- 1 in 5 girls miss school due to their period each month due to a lack of menstrual supplies. This leads to education inequity and missed opportunities
- Those who menstruate will use an average of 15-20 pads or tampons a week
- Although a natural part of human biology, menstruation is stigmatized in many communities
- Menstrual supplies are not covered by WIC or SNAP benefits.
In fall 2024, St. Paul’s launched Love, Period, a ministry dedicated to ending period poverty in Charles County by erecting Little Free Period Pantries filled with free and unlimited menstrual hygiene supplies. Current pantries are located in our public Meditation Garden and Our Place Soup Kitchen (located inside Good Shepherd United Methodist Church). We plan to erect another pantry at a local women’s shelter in the southern part of the county and at a group home in near the Charles/Prince George’s county border. Email Paula Truitte to learn more.
Volunteer
- Adopt a pantry for a month and ensure that it remains stocked with supplies
